'We are student artists'
While ‘free design work’ should be avoided in the industry, it‘s the only way for us, student creatives, to build our portfolios for university applications. The culture of ’free labour‘ thus becomes sensible, to the point where student artists don’t necessarily gettreated as they should be.
I came up with this project after talking to a close friend of mine, who wants to study film in the future. She talked about how a lot of non-creatives need her help on different projects, yet give her a lot of unreasonable requests and even end up not using her work after all the time she spent on the project. It was really relatable, and I found out that this is a universal story for every single creative student.
